Substance Sisters was born on a spiteful February afternoon. Isa Arredondo and Chloe Sturkie, two aspiring actors working towards finishing their BFA in acting, looked down at their phones to see the 3rd SCAD student film stoner buddy comedy casting call that had a male protagonist. As the two ranted about how they would never get a chance to be in one of their favorite genres of comedy films and idea sparked. "We both love writing, creating, and we're at an arts school, so why not us?" That was the day Substance Sisters was born.
It was important to Chloe and Isa that this was a genre that women from everywhere could see their type of humor in. They aimed to bring an uplifting and empowering feeling of GIRLY POP to the classic male-dominated stoner buddy comedy world.
After one year of writing, 6 months of meetings, and 40+ amazing crew members later, it was finally time to film it. Filming took place in Savannah, GA & Columbia, SC in the spring of 2026. Between principal roles and extras, there were over 45 actors/actresses that contributed to the making of this film.
However, this is where you come in! This project is currently in post-production, with a target release in late 2027 or early 2028. If you love this project and want to see it soar, we need crowdfunding from amazing supporters like you to be able to bring this film into the world. Funding will be attributed towards music for the film, color grading, editing software, special effects, and film festival applications so it can be shown in a theater near YOU!
Two sorority besties, Poppy and Brie, embark on the road trip of their lives, with their cat Shirley, after a shroom getaway with two frat bros goes awry. Faced with the battle between the vape mafia and their life philosophy, Poppy and Brie must protect themselves and Shirley.

WHAT'S NEXT?
At Shirley Mo, we are not just passionate about bringing the whimsy of girlhood to film. With two founders who grew up supported by their community youth theater programs, Shirley Mo's next project is a collaboration with the non-profit youth theater organization, Stage Kids WA, to bring the whimsy of film into a community that has no other film opportunities.
As we work hard to develop our next large-scale feature, we wanted to be able to work on something that would give back to the communities that we would not have gotten here without.
Isa found her passion for acting through her time with Stage Kids WA growing up. Her first show with them was in 7th grade. At 15, she began choreographing shows and teaching dance classes for them, while continuing to perform through their Stage Teens program. She and the Shirley Mo team are very excited to give back to the community and continue furthering their education.
In the summer of 2027, we will be filming a 30min short mockumentary with teens from Stage Kids.
