Shirley Mo co-founders Isa Arredondo and Chloe Sturkie weren’t sure what to expect when they walked into their very first acting class at the Savannah College of Art and Design, but neither of them could have guessed that was where they’d meet their future best friend and creative collaborator.

Our Story

The two were both actors and writers, both majoring in Acting while Isa minored in Dramatic Writing and Chloe in Creative Writing. They constantly bounced ideas off each other, helping one another to develop their individual class projects. The two spent many a night on their living room couch staying up with their writings, always open to asking the other for their thoughts.

Their first feature film all started with spite. The two actors scrolling through casting calls one day in Chloe’s college bedroom, and feeling an all-too-familiar disappointment. The vast majority of interesting, multifaceted roles were reserved for men, while most female roles were relegated to “girlfriend” or “love interest”. Feeling particularly spurned after seeing three casting calls for stoner buddy comedies in a row, all only casting men, Isa and Chloe decided then and there to do something about it. It was in that moment that their first feature film, Substance Sisters, was born.

Since then, Isa and Chloe have found a true passion for uplifting, complex, powerful female voices, and a harmony in doing so together. With the help of their wonderful network of colleagues who are all considered friends, Shirley Mo Productions is ready to keep creating and growing!

The two instantly clicked. From a freshman year full of dorm sleepovers, a sophomore year of movie nights and staying up late into the night talking about everything under the moon, the two moved in together junior year of college, excited to see what the future brought for them and their friendship.
